According to some recent information it has become official that the new Subaru WRX has been on its way to hit the market as a 2020 Subaru WRX STI model. The fans have been especially looking forward to its high-performance top trim level known as the STI. This model will use the latest design language, but it should also offer a hybrid version.
- a new platform,
- a new design language,
- manual transmission kept,
- possible hybrid version.
- most of the details about STI trim still not confirmed.
The 2020 Subaru WRX and its performance-oriented STI will show some rather innovative changes and improvements when it comes to exterior design. First of all, the new WRX will ride on a brand-new Subaru Global Platform that will allow stiffer chassis and reduced weight. This will significantly boost its already powerful performance. Also, the new WRX will apply the latest design language known as Dynamic X Solid Design which was seen on the Viziv Performance Concept revealed at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Such a design brings much more aggressive and sportier features, especially in the front fascia. Speaking of front end, some of the features such as a new grille and slim LED headlights can be compared to the ones seen on its SUV cousin Subaru Ascent. The car will also get a hood scoop. The new WRX STI should stand on 19-inch alloy wheels. In the back part, this model will look even sportier thanks to its fixed rear wing.
The interior of the 2020 Subaru WRX STI should also show some serious changes and upgrades, especially in terms of technology. There will be plenty of space for you and your passengers and the cargo area will be roomy as well. The dashboard will get the latest design while the center console will probably reveal a 7.0-inch infotainment touch-screen with navigation and other high-tech features. When it comes to safety systems and driver assist features, Subaru will upgrade these, too so you should expect automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning and others.
While the base model of the 2020 Subaru WRX should keep its 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four, the STI version should come with a 2.5-liter turbo that currently hits 305 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. The 2020 STI should come as more powerful, but also with better fuel efficiency and less CO2 emission. This has been mostly expected of its hybrid version, but the company hasn’t confirmed it yet. The STI will keep its all-wheel drive and probably a six-speed manual, but we expect more information soon.
