Ford has just debuted their fully revised 2018 Ford Focus RS Limited Edition. By the looks of it, Ford has been taking account and evaluating their social media feedback, because this new model comes with a host of upgrades and updates many fans have been hoping for. These changes include both mechanical and design enhancements.
Exterior and Interior
The new 2018 Ford Focus RS Limited Edition is offered in either Race Red or Nitrous Blue paint job color schemes. Both versions will be available with contrasting gloss black roof and side mirror caps. There is also a rear roof spoiler that is adorned with the same black gloss finish. Moreover, the limited edition features identifying RS logos on the side wings. Standard features include 19-inch forged alloy wheels that feature blue RS center caps.
Inside, the 2018 Ford Focus RS Limited Edition adds specialized door handles, handbrake lever and turbo boost gauge. They all come with carbon fiber finishes. Also standard is all the equipment that came with the RS2 Package. Meaning, heated steering wheel and side mirrors, as well as the voice-activated navigation are all available. The race-like Recaro seats are lined with leather, and feature some suede microfiber inserts, RS logos, and off course heating and electric modifications.
Engine and Powertrain
Changes and updates to the powertrain include a new Quaife limited-slip differential on the front axle of the 350-horsepower RS. This new addition restrains the torque that is distributed to one of the front wheels when slip is detected, than it redirects the extra torque to the wheel with more traction in order to enhance the grip levels and stability when the vehicle is goring around corners. Furthermore, this new system improves the braking capability. So, when the vehicle requires heavy braking, the differential’s torque transfer reverses and sends the torque away from the locking wheel, in turn further enhancing deceleration and permitting the driver to brake harder and later. What is more, this new system perfectly integrates with the Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive system that divides the torque between front and rear axles and between the two rear wheels.
2018 Ford Focus RS Limited Edition Release Date and Price
Ford will only produce 1000 models of the 2018 Ford Focus RS Limited Edition in the US, and 500 for the Canadian market. Deliveries will start sometime later this year, with the exact date yet to be announced. As for the pricing, Ford says they will release the details further down the line.
This limited edition model will also be your last chance to order the current Focus RS in whole of North America, because Ford is finishing up the new-generation Focus, that is expected to debut next year. However, the new-generation’s RS variant is still a couple more years away.
