Team Chevy has just announced the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R., a brand-new spec race car from the famed American car company, based on the sixth-generation Chevy Camaro and designed specifically for GT4 racing. It will join the ranks of Porsche, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG as well as the Ford Mustang for the battle of the ultimate GT4 race car.
What we know so far?
The new 2018 Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R. will be assembled by Pratt & Miller, the Innovative engineering team, and long-time Chevy motorsport collaborator. It is scheduled to appear at this years IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS as well as the Pirelli World Challenge GTS, as Team Chevy has announced. There it will take the place of the previous generation Camaro Z/28.R. Moreover, the GT4.R. will be eligible to enter other global GT4 competitions in the future.
The GT4 race car market has seen quite a surge in the last few years thanks to the various affordable options that are now available to promising race car drivers as well as hobbyists. And the GT4.R. is getting in just in time. This new model will reportedly take a lot of cues from the Camaro ZL1 road car. So far we do not know the extent of the features that will be included, however you can see a preview of what is to come in the teaser photo we provided below.
Engine and Powertrain
The new Chevy race car discards the supercharged V-8 engine popularized by the ZL1 and replaces it with a naturally-aspirated 6.2 liter powerplant. This new engine setup uses the dry-sump lubrication and sends all its power through a 6-speed Xtrac sequential transmission with additional paddle-shifters. Furthermore, the new model gets a Xtrac limited-slip differential, a 6-piston Brembo monoblock calipers on the front axle, as well as the adjustable Ohlins coil-overs. There will also be an aggressive downforce package.

Although the price details are not available yet, taking into account the prices its fiercest competitors, our prediction is that the GT4.R. could cost you anywhere between $165,000 and $190.000.
