The 2017 Bentley EXP 12 Speed 6e Concept just premiered at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show, and it looks like all the growing fuel economy and emissions standards and regulations have finally caught up with the luxury British automaker, forcing them to re-imagine their internal combustion systems. And what they came up with does just that. The battery-powered convertible luxury touring vehicle signifies that Bentley’s vision for the future is evolving to be more and more electric.
Exterior and Interior
In terms of design, Bentley does not drop the ball on this new EXP 12 Speed 6e Concept. Quite the contrary, the concept features some of the most innovative design Bentley has to offer. From the copper elements that highlight the exterior trim pieces in all the right places, to the elegant design lines, the new EXP 12 truly stands out. Moreover, while moving, a large “6e” illuminates within the grille, and the cameras have now replaced the side mirrors entirely. The hood scoops also work as heat sinks that will lower the temps for the battery.
The 2017 Bentley EXP 12 Speed 6e Concept’s design itself looks a lot like the Continental GT prototype that was spotted testing a couple of weeks ago. It also takes some cues from its predecessor, the EXP 10 Speed 6, on which the Continental GT was reportedly based on. So, it all seems to come full circle.
Inside, the innovative design continues, but the cabin retains all the distinctiveness of a Bentley. The seats are upholstered in superior-quality leather, while the rest of the cabin features a beautiful copper trim. From the high-tech standpoint, there is a large OLED display with all the necessary features and controls. Furthermore, the steering wheel, which is half-cut, includes glass elements entrenched with a number of buttons and controls.

Engine and Powertrain
Bentley’s vison for this new concept is to be an equivalent to any gas-powered model in their lineup. Meaning that a single charge will need to be enough to take the EXP 12 Speed 6e from Paris to London without stopping. The battery itself is said to feature inductive charging, completely eliminating the need for any wires or cables. But, in a chance inductive charging isn’t available, there will be a cable at your disposal. The powertrain setup or the expected output figures for this new concept weren’t disclosed, but Bentley will surely include electric motors that provide effortless amounts of torque, much like the rest of their 12-cylinder engine powered lineup.
Hopefully the 2017 Bentley EXP 12 Speed 6e Concept doesn’t invoke the same polarizing response the Rolls Royce’s electric concept got not that long ago. Although the two company’s do have disparate customer bases, so the EXP 12 Speed 6e might fare better than the Rolls-Royce 103EX.
